The Sydenstricker Schoolhouse

Come learn about the Sydenstricker School, or what was officially known as Pohick School #8. In this Adventure Lab, you will learn about the history of this school and get a sense of what it was like to be a student here in early 20th century, rural Fairfax County. This tour will take you around the exterior of this one-room schoolhouse – a structure that was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Parking is available on site, and permission for you to visit these grounds has been granted. If someone is around, say hello. You may even get to ring the school bell from the 1920s. At the completion of the Adventure Lab, you will be given the coordinates of a bonus cache (GC91MJ8), for those who would like to log another find. For a deeper dive into the history of the school, the neighboring chapel, and the surrounding community, and for more glimpses into a bygone era, play my wherigo (GC91MJD) before leaving here today. Begin this Adventure Lab at the historical marker...
