Swineburgh

Jeg har valgt, at lave denne labcache på Engelsk. spørgsmål er på både dansk og engelsk. Den danske tekst er på Bonuscachen GC8YYPE. Svendborg can be dated back to 1229 where it is first mentioned. Where the name comes from is not known, perhaps by "Pig (in DA – Svin)". Other older forms include Swineborg, Suyneborgh and Swynborch; in the 15th century forms such as Sweneborgh, Suenneborgh and Suenborg appear. The form Svendborg did not emerge till in the 17th century. Swineburg is thought to mean "castle with pigs", understood as a locality with especially many domestic pigs inside the walls or wild boar outside. It is also possible that it refers to the whale harbour porpoise (in DA Marsvin). Svendborg was already in the Middle Ages an important maritime, trade and craft town. You are now going on a little trip to some of the historic sites in the city.
