Memories of the 80s--The Outsiders Adventure Lab

The Outsiders, a book written by S.E. Hinton in 1967. She began writing the book when she was 15 & a student at Will Rogers HS in Tulsa. She was inspired by the social class divide within her own school. A divide so strong the gangs had to use seperate entrances into the building. It's portrayal of gang violence, delinquency, underage drinking, smoking & strong language resulted in the book being one of the most challenged books in the 20th century. It was even banned in some schools. In 1983, Francis Ford Coppola decided to direct the movie version of the book at the urging of a school in California. A star studded cast included Tom Cruise, C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio came to Tulsa. We will take you to 5 stops from the movie and the book. This will be a driving tour, we calculated 8 miles on our test drive and can be completed within an hour. You will need to leave your car for only one stop. The rest can be answered from the road. A bonus cache will await you at the end.
