Old Houses of Smithfield, Virginia

It was after the Civil War, in about 1876, that the big building boom of Smithfield, Virginia, began. It was during this era of steamboats and the flourishing peanut industry in Smithfield that many of the elaborate Victorian homes were built. On our very brief walking tour of South Church Street, in Smithfield’s Old Town District, you will see a very small sampling of the harmonious blend of Colonial, Federal, Georgian, and Victorian period houses and buildings side by side. Come back when you have a chance and spend the day learning about the rich history of many of the other old houses and the town of Smithfield, Virginia. When you have completed the journey go back and revisit the 5th journal entry The coordinates for the BONUS cache "WCP - Adventure Lab Bonus-Old Houses of Smithfield" (GC8T237) can be found there.
