Welcome to Pope County, Arkansas!
Home to the Osage Indians for generations; the Cherokee Indians for 10 years before their eventual relocation to Oklahoma; and settlers advancing westward as part of an infant United States.
Come and pass through history, exploring 5 locations of significance to the county. Visit a site for education and ministry to the Cherokees; a long gone bustling river port and ferry crossing on the Arkansas River; the county seat during the Civil War, when county records had to be hidden in a cave, and the center of a violent post-war era; a station serving drivers and passengers on the stagecoach line connecting Memphis to California; and a town boosted by the railroad to become the county seat and main population and commercial center of the county.
It should take you no more than 2 hours to complete but will require about 40 miles of driving. Don't forget to write down the clues at each location for the bonus geocache GC8KRKA. I hope you enjoy your adventure!
