CZ: Vítejte v Písku! Hrad a město založili na břehu řeky Otavy čeští králové v polovině 13. století. První písemná zmínka o městě pochází z roku 1243. Jméno bylo odvozeno od říčního písku, z něhož se zde od nepaměti rýžovalo zlato. Právě díky těžbě zlata i čilému obchodnímu a výrobnímu ruchu město rychle vyrostlo a těšilo se přízni panovníků Přemysla Otakara II., Karla IV. a Václava IV., kteří zde bývali častými hosty. EN: Welcome to Písek! The castle and town on the banks of the Otava River was established by Bohemian kings in the middle 13th century. The first written mention of the town is from 1243. The name (písek = sand) comes from the river sand which used to contain gold. It's due to this gold-mining activity, as well as the energetic trading and manufacturing, that the town quickly grew and enjoyed the favour of the rulers Přemysl Otakar II, Karel IV, and Václav IV, all of whom were frequent guests to the town.
