Join us as we explore beautiful Franklin, Tennessee. Founded in 1799, by Abram Maury, the town was named for Benjamin Franklin. The city developed along the Harpeth River, and was a trading and judicial center for Williamson County.
Franklin is best known as the site of one of the fiercest battles of the American Civil War, the Second Battle of Franklin, which resulted in a devastating loss for the Confederacy and nearly 10,000 casualties. During the battle, forty-four buildings were temporarily converted to use as field hospitals and headquarters, including the Carter, Carnton, and the Lotz houses.
Franklin is now a vibrant blend of historic preservation and modern sophistication; an oasis of Southern hospitality featuring a 16-block historic district of award-winning antique shops, gift and book stores, boutiques, privately owned art galleries, lovingly restored homes and more.
