Fort Montgomery State Historic Site (Part 1)

Welcome to Fort Montgomery State Historic Site which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973. It was built by the Americans early during the Revolutionary War and has been part of Bear Mountain State Park since 1910. https://parks.ny.gov/historic-sites/fortmontgomery/amenities.aspx Special mention to Jack Mead who played a major role in the development and preservation of the grounds here. He began work at Trailside Museum as a zookeeper in 1947 and developed a passion for the history of Fort Montgomery and Clinton. He conducted much of the archeological work that revealed the ruins of the fort. He also painted many of the images seen on the interpretive signs. Update: Ft. Montgomery AL part 2 has since been created. Enjoy the scenery while learning the history of the Revolutionary War in this area.
