EXPLORE: Lilburn - Arts, Music and Community

Our adventure begins in front of "Antiques in Old Town" to reflect on Lilburn's history and will take you to a few creative sights and sounds. This area is rooted with the railroad that still runs through Old Town. Founded in 1890 by the Seaboard Air Line Railway, this area previously known as "McDaniel" was renamed "Lilburn", after the general superintendent of the railroad, Lilburn Trigg Myers. The town prospered and was incorporated in 1910. Years later, a fire on Main Street, boll weevils destroying cotton crops and the Great Depression almost destroyed Lilburn (charted cancelled in 1937). A revitalization of the area had emerged with shopping and restaurants in the Old Town district as highway U.S. 29 was built. A water line was brought in and a police officer was hired. Lilburn hit a growth spurt and still feels like a small town. It is a nice place to live and has a lot of community interests. The Christmas Parade, Lilburn Daze and other events help bring attention to the creative residents.
