Walking is much easier than driving because of the one way streets and lack of parking. Antigua is a protected UNESCO World Heritage Site. Bright colors abound in Antigua and can be seen in the colonial architecture, indigenous culture and clothing, as well as in the flowers and trees. Antigua is surrounded by three massive volcanoes, one which is active is Fuego or Fire volcano. It is quite normal to see puffs of smoke almost every day. Antigua was the capital of Guatemala before the destructive earthquakes of 1773.
