Crossing the Tappan Zee

Imagine yourself exploring the Hudson River like the intrepid Henry Hudson. Well, maybe not exactly like he did. Instead, you can bike, run or walk the new Bridge Path and enjoy wonderful vistas along the way. Tappan is the name of a subtribe of Native American Lenape who lived in the region and Zee is the dutch term for Sea. The original Tappan Zee Bridge opened in 1955. It was slowly dismantled and the remaining span was imploded in January 2019. The new Tappan Zee Bridge opened in 2017 (eastbound only), and completed in 2020. There are six belvederes along the path where you can stop to take pictures and enjoy a rest. Art installments, history and scenic views along your route add to the magnificence of the journey. The path is 3.6 miles one way. Estimated time to walk one way is 80 minutes; estimated biking time is 20 minutes. Free parking at both Rockland and Westchester Landings. Path is open 6 am - 10 pm.
