Langlais Sculpture Preserve

Welcome to the Langlais Sculpture Preserve in Cushing, Maine. The Langlais Sculpture Preserve is a portion of the Langlais Art Trail, which showcases art of Bernard Langlais (1921-1977). The trail consists of 3,000 artworks across the state of Maine. Bernard Langlais was born in Old Town, Maine in 1921. After high school, he studied at the Corcoran School of Art and then earned scholarships to the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and the Brooklyn Museum Art School, as well as a Fullbright grant to study in Norway. In 1956, he and his wife, Helen, purchased a summer cottage on the St. George River in Cushing, which is where he began creating abstract wood reliefs. He returned to this location in 1966, and lived here until 1977. Make sure to note the coordinates for GC9247Z Langlais Sculpture Preserve Adventure Lab Bonus. Langlais‘ best-known work, the seventy-foot Skowhegan Indian, is part of another nearby Adventure Lab (“Skowhegan is: A place to watch...”). Open dawn to dusk.
