Cape Breton Coal

In 1720, French soldiers began to mine at Cow Bay (Cape Breton, Nova Scotia) to supply the fortress at Louisbourg. Cape Breton later supplied coal to Boston and other American ports, and to the British militia in Halifax. By 1870, 21 coal mines were operating in Cape Breton, but virtually all of them were abandoned in the early 20th century. This coal leads to the construction of world class steel plants and coke ovens, at both at Sydney Mines and Sydney employing further thousands of workers. The only remaining mine is now at Donkin. This adventure will lead you to five former coal towns, now part of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, once thriving industrial centers in their own right. There are five adventure sites to visit, with each having a related regular cache nearby, and a final bonus cache once all sites have been visited and the codes used to solve the puzzle ( GC8JYYW ). Total time could be from 4 to 5 hours.
