Slovenia’s coastline is only 47 kilometres long – but it’s packed with cute towns. If you ask me which one to choose, answer would be simple “picturesque Piran”.
Piran is a historic harbour town set on a narrow peninsula, hemmed in by the Gulf of Trieste on three sides. Piran is also known for it’s long pier and Venetian architecture. Tartini Square is flanked by the Gothic Venetian House and the frescoed Tartini House. The latter is the birthplace of violinist Giuseppe Tartini. The 19th-century town hall has a stone lion, a symbol of the former Republic of Venice. St. George’s Cathedral, nearby, has 17th-century paintings and marble altars.
