Welcome to Guiting Power

This adventure will take you on a short walk around the Cotswold village of Guiting Power. You will also find plenty of Geocache’s around the village or the surrounding areas placed by myself or others meaning you can pick a few up at the same time as doing this adventure. Archeological evidence suggests that there has been a settlement in Guiting Power since around 780AD although Roman remains have been found in the area as well. In Anglo Saxon times the village was called Gyting Broc and the word Guiting is thought to derive from the Saxon word for a fast running stream which the village has as the River Windrush passes by to the east of the village. The Power part of the name comes from the Lords of the Manor in medieval times who went by the name Le Poher. The starting point for this adventure is at the Village Hall where you will find parking as well.
