Welcome to Sumas, WA! This small country border town is just south of the Canadian border, south of Abbotsford, BC. Sumas is primarily an agricultural town with dairy and crop farms dotted around the south, east, and west of "downtown" Sumas. The town has had a number of booms and busts of the years as evident by the number of vacant gas stations you see on Cherry Street (SR 9). There's a little industrial area just west of town which focuses on timber and roofing-related industries. The town has seen floods over the years from the Nooksack River overflowing its banks with the most recent flood occurring in early February 2020 which closed the border. Then the pandemic closed it for over a year and a half before reopening.
This is the first adventure in Sumas and will highlight some interesting places to stop and check out while in town. No need to cross into Canada to complete this adventure. Once the adventure is completed, there will be a bonus cache for you to find. Enjoy your time in Sumas!
