Haurvig

The place name Haurvig probably derives from one of the many small and idyllic bays in Ringkobing Fjord, which were used as shipping ports for reed and local fishing ports. Haurvig lies on the youngest part of Holmsland Klit. It was not until around 1700 that the spit of land closed. The people's livelihood was a combination of agriculture, sheep farming and fishing. There was also a shore officer who watched over the beach and arranged for the rescue of sailors in the event of a shipwreck. Today there are holiday homes in Haurvig on the sea side and on the fjord side. They are situated in the dune landscape. To get to the beautiful sandy beach, you have to cross the dunes, some of which are high.
