Where They Lie

St John the Baptist Anglican Church at Reid is the oldest place of worship in the ACT and all locations for this adventure lab can be accessed in the Churchyard. The cemetery surrounding St John’s Church is the oldest graveyard in the Australian Capital Territory still in use and burials there are now restricted to holders of Exclusive Right of Burial Certificates. Older monuments than the earliest St. John’s memorial are to be found in the ACT, however the St John’s cemetery is certainly the most historically interesting in the area. It’s monuments record burials from 1844 to the present time. The earliest memorial is that for the Guise family (1844). Enjoy an easy stroll through the historic markers in this cemetery where the locations represent just a handful of the significant memorials in the Churchyard. Available 24/7 and parking is available for visitors. Acknowledgement: “St John’s Churchyard” Jean Salisbury OAM, Canberra, 2000 There is a bonus Mystery cache for this Adventure Lab.
