Columbia, Maryland: The Second 5 Villages

Welcome back to Columbia, MD! Founded June 21, 1967, the city was the brainchild of James W. Rouse, a businessman/real estate developer. It’s a planned community once called the “Next America;” a blend of city/country living meant to prevent problems found in major cities and suburbs. In 2016 it was named #1 small city to live in by Money Magazine; in 2017 it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Columbia has 10 villages, each consisting of several neighborhoods with names influenced by poetry, literature, history and art. This Adventure Lab is meant to complement the first Columbia, MD Lab by taking you to the second 5 villages in Columbia to see a unique location of each. This Adventure does take some driving. Ideally locations would be completed in village order, but the most direct route begins with village 9, followed by 6, 7, 8 and 10. Depending on how much you explore, it could take 2 to 3 hrs., or even be multi-day. At each location, collect codes that can lead you to a bonus mystery cache (GC919RR)!
