Kongevej er 1,3 km lang og anlagt omkring år 1900. The course of the street corresponds to a military column road, which was built on the city side of the fortress wall in the Prussian Festung Sonderburg-Düppel. The fortress' cannon house was built by the column road. The building still exists and is now a private residence (Kongevej 48-54). Before 1920, the street was called Kaiser Wilhelm Allee. It was considered the finest street in the city. You can still see large villas built in typical German Neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau styles.
