Machynlleth- Ancient Capital of Wales

Machynlleth is a small market town in north Powys, on the edge of the beautiful Dyfi Biosphere. Carbon dating has shown evidence of copper mining in this area in the early Bronze Age (2750 years ago), and the Romans also settled here. In 1291 Edward I granted a market charter to Owen de la Pole, Lord of Powys, allowing the holding of a market every Wednesday. 700 years later and Wednesday is still market day! The Dyfi bridge, just outside the town provided a route over the River Dyfi in 1533, and has been replaced and updated throughout history until 1809, and again in 2021. The town is also home to Owain Glyndŵr's Parliament House. Glyndŵr was a Welsh Prince who rebelled against Henry IV, and he was crowned Prince of Wales here in 1404. From the start point of the public car park I'd recommend going to the Gates as your first location, then along the path to Y Plas, before coming back to the town for the other locations.
