A Trip Eastbound on the 401

This Adventure Lab is to help you pass time as you travel down the 401 from Toronto towards Montreal. There is a post at each ONroute Centre and will be easily spotted. Some may be inside, others outside. 401 Facts: The 401 Highway is 828 km (514.5 mi) long and stretches from Windsor to the Ontario/Quebec border. This Adventure Lab only deals with the east bound section from Toronto to the border. The highway was officially started in 1952 and completed when all the sections were joined together in 1968. Improvements have been ongoing since then. The highway was originally called the 'Kings Highway 401', then 'Highway 401' with the official name changed in 1965 to 'Macdonald-Cartier Highway' (after two fathers of confederation). In 2007 the section from Trenton to Toronto was renamed 'The Highway of Heroes' which recognizes those from the Armed Forces that gave their lives for their country. (Their bodies travel this section from Air Force base to the coroner's office). Enjoy the lab!
