New York State is a geological marvel, showcasing a diverse array of features and attractions shaped by a billion of year of natural processes. The Adirondack Mountains are a massif, circular dome that contains more than 100 peaks, including Mount Marcy, New York's highest peak. The Catskills, with it's lush forests, is a physiographic province and subrange of the Appalachian Mountains.
There is Niagara Falls, one of the most iconic natural wonders in the world and the exposed ancient bedrock in Manhattan's Central Park. The Finger Lakes are glacial carved area of fresh water and Eastern Long Island is sandy pine barrens.
And let's not forget all of the minerals you can find!
There are Herkimer Diamonds, exceptional clear, double-terminated quartz crystals found primarily in Herkimer County. Garnets, the state gem of New York, typically red and found in the Barton Mines in Warren County, which is the world’s largest garnet mine. Many forms of Calcite, Fluorite and the colorful iridescent Labradorite.
