Zante Town

Zakynthos Island is in the Ionian Sea. According to Greek myths, the island was named after Zakynthos or Zacynthus, the son of the legendary Arcadian chief Dardanus (the son of Zeus). Zante Town is located on the eastern coast of the Island of Zakynthos at the base of the hill of Bochali and it is at the same time chief town and main port of the island. The houses, shops and buildings were rebuilt in the traditional Venetian Style after the destructive earthquake of 1953, that ruined the majority of the buildings in Zante Town and forced the inhabitants to rebuilt them, giving significant emphasis on the protection against earthquakes.
