TN-23 Nashville's beginnings

This Adventure Lab is one of 30 that make up the TN Lab Art, with a total of 150 lab caches. (You can complete this adventure lab within the Athens I-75 Northbound Rest Area. DO NOT PARK ON THE HIGHWAY!) The city of Nashville was not always known as Music City and in the very beginning, it was not called Nashville. Its roots go back to the late 1700s when the first settlers arrived from North Carolina to begin the adventure of a lifetime. They quickly realized that they needed to build a sturdy shelter to protect themselves from the wild animals and Indians in that area. The result was a square log stockade that covered about 2 acres. It had 20 log cabins for 200 or so settlers who had arrived to begin a new life. The name that they gave their stockade was Fort Nashborough. (I chose the theme of this particular adventure lab because my great, great, great, great grandfather, Frederick Stump, was one of the first settlers and helped to build the fort.)
