As the song goes, if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere, but apparently not 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for these following 5 New Yorkers. Each tried (one tried twice) to obtain the highest elected office in the land but failed to win the U.S. Presidency. In addition to the five featured in this AL, there were no less than seven other New Yorkers who failed to win the Presidency in the general election. Two of them, Martin Van Buren and Grover Cleveland, at least won first before they were defeated.
