This walk will take you alongside the Dartmouth Steam Railway, up through Hoodown woods and back into the village. Kingswear is a small village opposite Dartmouth in the South Hams. Known as the sunny side of the Dart this is a fascinating place with plenty to discover. There are a couple of shops and cafes for you to try while in the village and some fantastic views of Dartmouth to take in as well. If visiting during its operating season you will almost certainly be able to see one of the steam trains that work on the Dartmouth Steam Railway. There is a public WC (not 24 hours) located near the Post Office, near the Lower Ferry slipway. Please be aware while walking near to the track and alongside the river. Though the line doesn't run passenger services all year there may be locomotives working at any time. Two crossings of the track are required, one at a level crossing and one at a pedestrian crossing. Please do not stray onto the track and check there are no trains coming when crossing.
