The Townsend River Walk and Arboretum is located along the banks of the Little River. Created by members of the Tuckaleechee Garden Club, the beautiful trail allows visitors to view native plants along with towering trees making the walk both shady and educational.
An arboretum is a botanical collection of trees, shrubs and other plants grown for scientific and educational purposes. Most arboretums are gardens but this one, certified by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council, is the only 'trail arboretum' of its kind in the area, possibly the entire state.
PARKING is permitted, across the road, at the Camp Ground United Methodist Church.
Crossing the 5 lane highway, at this location, to reach the trail and its stairway may not the best idea. A 300meter walk up the sidewalk will take you to a tunnel where you can safely cross under the road and access the river walk.
