Droxford is a small village in the Meon Valley clustered around the A32 with the River Meon to the east. People have lived here since Neolithic times and in the 6th century Jutes from Denmark invaded Hampshire and the Meon tribes settled here. The name Droxford is derived from ford and an old word 'drocen' meaning dry place.
This rural walk will take you around the area to the east of Droxford through some picturesque countryside, along the Meon Valley Railway Line and past the old Droxford Railway Station where historic talks were held in 1944 between Churchill and Eisenhower who were discussing and planning D Day.
You will cross the River Meon a couple of times and pass the old Mill. It is recommended that you wear substantial footwear as the paths can be quite muddy at times. Dogs will enjoy this short walk of approximately 2km and if like us you stop to enjoy the scenery it will take you about an hour to complete.
Free parking for several cars is in Droxford Square N50 57.639 W001 08.265.
