1862 Peninsula campaign

The Civil war began on April 22, 1861 when the Confederates bombarded Union soldiers at Fort Sumter, S.C. and ended when Robert E. Lee surrendered the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox court house on April 9, 1965. The Peninsula Campaign of the Civil war lasted from March thru July 1862, The operation was commanded by General George B. McClellan Many battles took place in the area of Hampton, Newport News, and Yorktown: The Battle of Big Bethel June 10, 1861. The Battle of Hampton Roads, Mar 8-9, 1862 The Battle of Lee's Mill, April 5th, 1862 The Battle of Dam #1, April 16, 1862 The Battle of Yorktown or Siege of Yorktown was fought from April 5 to May 4, 1862 The Battle of Williamsburg, took place on May 5, 1862 This cache will involve driving to a few different historical locations in both Newport News and Yorktown. Hope you all enjoy the tour of the Peninsula civil war trail and visit many more of the sites from Fort Monroe to Yorktown.
