In 1947, as World War II Veterans were returning home, William Levitt began creating what was dubbed a Suburban Utopia. He created homes in a 27 step assembly line style with subcontractors responsible for each step. Levitt’s team was making 36 homes a day at peak production in July of 1948. The homes were enticing to veterans because they could be purchased for $6,900 with basically no down payment. Each home was built complete with kitchens that housed modern appliances, and even a television in each living room. This Adventure Lab will take you to many historical places in Levittown.
